A few more images, from our weekend away..
Having spent so much time looking forward to the brighter, lighter days of summer, I find myself in a bit of a funk. Here are a few things that are inspiring me, today.
:: A brief of Heath Ceramics, and the importance of doing what you love.
:: The story of Tom Gabel of Against Me! and his decision to come out as transgendered.
:: The Apple Sisters sing about Handsome Coffee, featuring performances by The Handsomes (as I call them) themselves. These guys have worked hard, kicked ass and are bringing something amazing to the people. Simply inspiring.
Now go, and get inspired.
And we rock,
Because it’s us against them.
We found our own reasons to sing,
And it’s so much less confusing
when lines are drawn like that,
When people are either consumers or revolutionaries,
Enemies or friends hanging on the fringes
Of the cogs in the system,
It’s just about knowing where everyone stands.
All of a sudden,
People start talking ’bout guns,
Talking like they’re going to war,
‘Cause they found something to die for,
Start taking back what they stole-
sure beats every other option,
But does it make a difference how we get it?
Well do you really fucking get it?
No, no, no, no,
No, no, no, no….

I love to window shop. The best part about it is that you don’t have to take it all home, but sometimes- just sometimes- you find a few things that are so special you just have to make room.
Enter, The Want List.
I came across these vintage cotton napkins a while back, and have been quietly keeping them to myself. However, they’re too cute not to share!
I really don’t need to add to my collection of vintage cloth napkins, so I decided to make them available in the shop.
More delightful gingham goodness!
For the past few months, I’ve been enjoying (and sharing!) the experience of watching the crew at Handsome Coffee Roasters get up and running with their first coffee bar and dedicated coffee roasting facility. It’s one of the best new things in my neighborhood, and not only are the guys happy to be here in the Arts District, they’re also very happy to share.
This week, they’re extending an invitation to the neighborhood to come see the space, drink coffee (on the house!) and celebrate this new neighborhood addition! They’re not yet open for business, but they’re throwing a little party anyhow.
What: Call it a “coffeehouse speakeasy.”
Where: Handsome Coffee Roasters, 582 Mateo St @ Willow, Los Angeles, CA 90013
When: Feb 8 through Feb 10, 7-11 PM
Why: Coffee, company, and a good photo-op!
Hope to see you there!
The past week or so has been incredible for thrifting. Is it a post-holiday clean-out of everyone’s houses? People moving on to bigger and better things? Whatever it is, I’ve been happily cleaning up the discards.
These mugs and these place mats were found on two different thrift trips, but I really love the way they look together. I can just imagine having hot cocoa next to a roaring fire in the Pacific Northwest– in the 70’s, of course.
I mean. Just look at this face. How can you resist a face like that?
Just one of the reasons I love my neighborhood: a quick snapshot of a stranger’s dog turned into an hours-long wine & conversation session with some of the coolest folks in the ‘hood, at our new local wine bar. And it all started with this adorable pup. Good work bringing folks together, Honey Bear!
